  • Never go to a holiday party hungry. Tame your appetite before leaving home with a high protein diet bar, shake or drink, snack or cup of hot cocoa, followed by a full glass of water.

  • Limit your alcohol consumption to one drink. Alcohol adds empty calories and destroys your healthy resolve.

  • Exercise or walk briskly before an event, to remind you of your new healthier lifestyle. Then, go outside and take a walk after eating, instead of plopping down on the couch.

  • Don't talk about your diet at a party. Whether your host is Mom of the boss, be charming and upbeat. Avoid the word “no” if you can. When declining something, try a simple: “I think I'll pass on that for now, thanks.”
